Composites win design award PREMIER COMPOSITE Technologies (PCT) and UNStudio recently won a ‘Best Stand’ award at a design exhibition in London. The modular stand was created using advanced composite materials. Designed by Ben van Berkel of Dutch architectural design firm UNStudio, the stand was

engineered, manufactured and installed by Premier Composite Technologies (PCT), a Dubai-based supplier of composite architectural components. The design is based on the repetition of a single geometric module and it was moulded from carbon fibre and epoxy resin combined with a structural foam core.

Lamborghini to produce Sesto Elemento LAMBORGHINI HAS announced that its Sesto Elemento carbon fibre concept car will go into production. At the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show, Lamborghini’s President and CEO Stephan Winkelmann said that only 20 units of the new car will be produced, and they will be destined for track use. The first cars are scheduled to be delivered early 2013.

The Sesto Elemento technology demonstrator, unveiled at last year’s Paris Motor Show, features a carbon fibre composite monocoque and extensive use of carbon fibre throughout the car. It sports an extremely lightweight body of 999 kg, a power output of 570 hp, and a V10 engine, and a power-to-weight ratio of just 1.75 kg per. Lamborghini; www.lamborghini.com

PCT used the 5 m x 10 m stand at 100% Design, a contemporary design show attracting interior designers, architects, retailers and specifiers, where it was chosen from over 400 exhibitors to win Blueprint magazine’s ‘Best Stand’ award.
